Custom Fabric Engineering

Your specifications. A considered production route.

When standard fabric books do not match your babywear design, we coordinate custom yarn selection, specialized knitting gauges, custom dyeing, and dedicated finishing treatments through our partner mill network.

The 5-Stage Development Process

  1. 01Stage 1

    Specification & Tech Pack Intake

You provide a garment tech pack, physical fabric cut-piece, or target specification sheet including fiber composition, target GSM, finished width, and hand-feel expectations.

  2. 02Stage 2

    Mill Feasibility & Yarn Allocation

We consult our partner knitting and weaving masters to verify machine gauge availability, appropriate yarn counts (e.g., 30s, 40s, 50s combed cotton), and realistic finishing shrinkage tolerances.

  3. 03Stage 3

    Lab Dips & Preliminary Swatch

Partner dye houses produce lab dip options under standard light sources (D65, TL84, CWF). For custom knit structures, small trial knit-downs are executed to evaluate surface texture and stretch recovery.

  4. 04Stage 4

    Sample Yardage (Pre-Production)

Upon lab dip and knit-down sign-off, a sample roll or trial yardage is produced so your technical pattern-makers can perform wash tests, shrinkage calculations, and garment prototype sewing.

  5. 05Stage 5

    Bulk Execution & Quality Sign-Off

Bulk knitting or weaving proceeds only after sample yardage approval. Dye lot continuity, batch weight uniformity, and buyer-specified laboratory tests are documented prior to dispatch.

A Frank Note on Development Feasibility

We do not promise that every custom knit concept can be developed at any quantity. Feasibility is confirmed with the partner mill before any sampling commitments are made. If a requested yarn count requires uneconomical spinning runs, or if an elastane percentage risks excessive spirality in fine jersey, we suggest practical technical adjustments early.

What We Need From Your Merchandiser

To evaluate technical feasibility with our partner mills, please provide as much of the following as available:

  • 1. Reference Swatch or Tech PackA physical swatch (even a 10×10 cm cut) or detailed garment technical sheet showing target look and drape.
  • 2. Target Composition & WeightTarget fiber blend (e.g., 100% Combed Cotton, Cotton/Elastane 95/5) and desired GSM range (e.g., 180–190 gsm).
  • 3. Color Standards & Light Box SetupPantone TCX / TPX references, or physical fabric standard swatches, along with your primary retail lighting requirement.
  • 4. Performance RequirementsTarget shrinkage thresholds (e.g., < 5% length/width), burst strength requirements, or anti-pilling expectations.
  • 5. Program Quantities & Target TimingEstimated bulk yardage or meterage per colorway, sample timeline requirements, and intended garment production dates.
